REGINA — Educators in Saskatchewan have reached a new accord with the province following approximately two years of negotiations.
The Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation states that the agreement is effective from September 1, 2023, and includes a total compensation boost of nine percent for educators spread across three years.
The deal was completed last week once both parties reached an understanding on the wording concerning the matter of class complexity.
The Education Minister, Everett Hindley, stated in a release that the province values the efforts of educators and is glad to observe that the accord ensures stability for teachers, students, and their families.
In May, educators turned down a provincial proposal for a three-year deal, as 90 percent voted against it.
For months leading up to that vote, the federation and the province were deadlocked, with teachers resorting to job actions such as rotational strikes and withholding their voluntary efforts for extracurricular activities.
The report from The Canadian Press was initially released on April 3, 2025.
