Family entertainment remains timeless, much like Voy 61 The drive-in theater makes its return for its 75th season, standing among just a few others still operating throughout Iowa.
Over the years, thousands have flocked here for popcorn and movie nights, yet only a select few truly understand this spot like Sara Clasen does. Having spent much of her childhood munching on treats, she has transitioned into her role as the general manager, ensuring those snacks continue to be readily available.
We stand out among the best in the Midwest," Clasen stated. "Once visitors arrive, they get hooked. It turns into an experience they never forget.
This marks a full-circle moment for Clasen, who commemorated the drive-in's historical landmark with those present on Friday.
"Truly, it's one of the finest spots to enjoy a film you adore," stated visitor Evan Mossel.
"It’s really cool to introduce this experience to the children who have no idea what a drive-in theater is. Many of them haven’t even laid eyes on one," remarked visitor Joe Fonner.
These feature films couldn't have been enjoyed without Dennis Voy. He purchased the theater 53 years ago, giving families a place to turn in the spring and summer.
Voy’s enjoyment ultimately transformed into the family business. His granddaughter, Sara, was the most recent to assume control, continuing the legacy with three generations of participants.
Dennis mentioned that although they didn’t accumulate much wealth over the years, they enjoyed themselves immensely, meeting many wonderful individuals.
Clasen and her grandfather hope the theater continues for another 75 years. It's a vision the two share with Clasen's son and daughter - the next set of potential owners.
