BISMARCK, ND ( KXNET — The North Dakota Health and Human Services (HHS) has begun accepting applications for grants using the state’s opioid settlement money.
The allocated funds aim to back programs and projects designed to increase individuals' access to prevention, treatment, and recovery services for those battling opioid addiction.
This grant opportunity is available to organizations that aim to offer services in North Dakota focusing on areas such as treatment and rehabilitation, preventive measures, educational programs, and family and community support.
Applicants must submit proposals for the funding. Those whose proposals align with one or more priority recommendations from the Opioid Settlement Advisory Committee, chaired by Christopher Joseph, general council for the Governor’s Office, will receive extra points during the review process. These priority recommendations include:
- Increasing accessibility to local treatment and recovery programs in both countryside and urban regions.
- Expanding therapy and rehabilitation programs inside correctional facilities.
- Aiding preventive measures such as neighborhood alliances and initiatives aimed at young people.
- Improving the mental health workforce to address increasing service needs.
- Backing Needle Exchange Programs to minimize damage and enhance community well-being.
These resources offer a chance to invest significantly in North Dakota’s communities by backing proven initiatives aimed at tackling opioid use disorders and their broad effects," stated Joseph. "We urge groups to submit applications and assist in fortifying prevention, treatment, and recovery efforts throughout the state.
Award notifications are anticipated to be released in early June, with the 24-month agreements starting on July 1st. The level of financial support will depend on what was allocated by the legislature for the fiscal years covering 2025 through 2027.
